The vitriol directed at a parent for expressing gratitude and hoping for more inclusion for their child is exactly why we still call this Awareness Month and not Acceptance Month. This is what the autism community faces for simply asking to exist and be understood in a world that too often greets them with anger and views them as a burden. Autism is a spectrum, complex, not a choice. To that parent and child, you are seen, you are appreciated, and right to speak up. And to the unlearned, I'd gladly host that assembly.
