The National Guard are clearly not the best means to stop urban crime. They can, however, assume traffic control and similar ancillary duties the free municipal police to devote more effort to crime fighting. They can serve as a force multiplier. Why would anyone with any common sense object to a greater effort being made to combat crime in the community, unless they support crime?
