Strathmere - In the United States, seagulls, among a long list of other bird species, are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. This legislation makes it unlawful to kill, hunt, capture, sell, trade or transport them without prior authorization from the Department of Interior U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Injuring or killing a seagull can result in a fine of up to $500 or 11 months in jail.
