Stone Harbor - The Mayor’s proposed new bike helmet ordinance, requiring all ages to wear bike helmets, is not needed or enforceable. The current NJ law requiring age 17 and under to wear helmets for bikes and scooters is not enforced in SH. Mayor has not provided injury/mortality per capita data to support her proposal (e.g., 1 tragic accidental death in over 100 years – read the police report). First, Enforce ONLY bikers in the bike lane, bikers riding in the correct lane with cars, bikes having reflectors and headlights, crack down on speeding again, and start by enforcing NJ’s 17 and under helmet law.
