Stone Harbor - After listening to our council meeting in November 5th, for a community that already pays substantial taxes, it’s frustrating to see our police officers underpaid. Stone Harbor residents contribute a significant amount to local taxes with the expectation that it will fund essential services, including law enforcement. Yet, with an average police salary of $76,000 in 2019( only data I could find)—well below the New Jersey state average of $123,000—it’s clear that these funds aren’t supporting our officers adequately. Underpaying officers impacts the department and the community.
