The Wildwoods combined have about the same land area and year-round population as Ocean City. There are four municipalities instead of one, not counting the most ridiculous portion of Lower Township at Diamond Beach. There is no logical reason why these municipalities do not merge, other than political control, ego and perhaps greed. Moving north, Stone Harbor and Avalon share a tiny, year-round population on a seven-mile-long island, which if combined would give the island the fourth lowest population density in CMCo, just behind Middle, but there are still two governments.
