Sea Isle City - Suggesting that parishioners in favor of saving the historic St. Joseph Church are guided merely by feelings of nostalgia is a very juvenile and simple-minded way to frame the discussion around the church’s fate. Preservation of cherished places is important, as historic buildings add to a city’s sense of place. New does not necessarily translate as better. It would behoove the small committee to take a look at towns that do historic preservation right; they could see that cherishing beloved places attracts more people and strengthens pride in the town and the parish.
