Sea Isle City - Cape May County freeholders could learn from what recently transpired in PA. The Delaware County Council voted to acquire a 213-acre parcel at the former Don Guanella School thus saving the old growth forest from development. Preservation of open space brings economic and environmental benefits. Studies confirm that preserved open space brings direct economic benefit in the form of tourism dollars, related employment, and nearby retail earnings as well as increased property values of surrounding properties. Freeholders should use open space funds to preserve open space.
