Sea Isle City - Because of the recent storms, back bay flooding has become more of an issue for many people. There are important contributing factors that need to be mentioned.
Water that builds up over several tide cycles needs to go back to the ocean via the inlets. Little or no dredging has taken place in Townsend’s. Hereford and Corson’s are impassable to boats and water. Neglecting the inlet flow produces this bottleneck. Years ago the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) was, on average, much deeper. With no dredging to speak of, it’s become less capable of holding the amount of water than in the past.
