Sea Isle City - According to a Petersburg spouter, some local municipalities are buying new police cars while also laying off employees. There is a lot more to government budgeting. The spouter must not realize that government vehicles, especially ones like police and utility vehicles, get far more use than those driven by the public. Also, municipalities buy vehicles for considerably less than do private citizens. Buying new vehicles and reducing repair costs is saving money. It would take many vehicles to equal the salary of even one low-paid employee when the cost of employee benefits are considered.
