Many mistakenly believe that the American Civil war was fought to end slavery. Although that was a collateral result ,the war was primarily dispute between the North and South over economic issues and states rights although on its surface it was fought to save black lives.Over 600,000 Americans were killed and over 1.6 Million wounded in the war.I recently had the opportunity to visit The battlefields of Gettysburg where over 50,000 died in the 3 day carnage. It’s sad that so many of one race died trying to help another race yet ,156 years later, we can’t call each other brothers.
