During a discussion about increasing the minimum wage, someone commented, "A decent livable wage is not overpaying someone, it's simply the right thing." But not every job is worth more money. It is absurd to pay people who pump gas (thanks NJ) and flip burgers the same as skilled workmen, EMTs, school support staff and lots of other employees who barely make that money. It is also unreasonable for an employer to pay so much that his business fails. Then multiple people are out of a job. Higher pay for better jobs is part of the incentive that makes people study in school and learn trades.
