Raven Rock - I think it's a shame that the format of the Herald onli has changed, especially banning comments except by those with a Facebook account. Not everyone has nor desires a Facebook. Reading the comments was part of the small-town appeal of the Herald; sometimes comments were funny, insightful or contained information that the news story itself did not. I think limiting feedback via comments is a major misstep, reduces entertainment value of online Herald, and stifles discourse. If comments did not comply with Herald's standards, there was already recourse, you could delete the offending comment.

Moderator's Note:
Thanks for your concern; this was given much thought – we agree that reader comments add great value. For good reason, most news sites require some form of registration to post comments. To comment on our old site, a site registration was required – folks complained about having to create a user account, and those actions required a degree of administration from us. Many people already have a Facebook account; for those folks, no additional registration is required to comment on our website. For those who don’t have a Facebook account, one can be easily created at no charge. We are glad to see folks posting comments on our new website; we hope you will too.
