On Wednesday they announced a plan for legal guardianships for hundreds of veterans, including some who are homeless or “at risk of homelessness.” This could be used to force them into involuntary or institutional care. The plan comes during a push by Trump to force more homeless people into institutional treatment for mental illness and drug addiction. Can’t we offer help to our veterans without forcing them onto into institutional care and taking away their rights? Don’t they deserve more than being hidden away?
