Ocean View - The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act signed into law June 1930, raised import duties by an average of 40-60% to protect American businesses and farmers. The act was intended to boost farm prices and increase protection for U.S. industries .However , it worsened the Great Depression and triggered a trade war. The act raised tariffs on over 20,000 imported goods and agricultural imports. This act didn't go so well. Looks like trump might be going down the same path .
