Ocean City - The "NW Rule" spouter may not be aware that dispatching an engine or ladder company along with an ambulance is normal procedure in almost every part of the U.S., including nearby cities like NY, Phila. and DC. The personnel are assigned to that piece of apparatus, be it an engine company (pumper) or ladder company (ladder truck). They don't leave the apparatus behind; for one thing, it carries equipment that may be helpful on an EMS call; also, they go back into service, and are ready for dispatch on their next assignment immediately, without driving to quarters and switching vehicles.
