Ocean City - A law sponsored by Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), granted a presumption of refugee eligibility for Jews and Christians fleeing the former Soviet Union and Southeast Asia. Now, that law, extended last year by President Obama, prioritizes the resettlement of Jews, Christians, Baha’is, and other religious minorities who flee Iran. That sounds a good bit like a "religious test" to me. Isn't that what the president said should not be applied in the case of the Syrian refugees? Yes, the law does not call for 'exclusivity' in the immigration of folks from those countries, but rather a preference.
