Ocean City - Cape May County Sheriff's Department was advised by other departments that they will need more staff to run its new direct supervised jail. Direct supervision means that the officers will be locked in the housing units with the inmates. The current administration is aware of the situation and continues to deny this fact. The bottom line is it's going to cost more tax dollars to hire more officers. Unfortunately, it comes down to money and not safety. If the administration doesn't care about officer safety, I hope the FOP union does.
