North Wildwood - When I was a kid during the original 1950's Superman craze, our mothers discouraged us from tying any flowing materials around our necks to imitate a cape. We were warned about the threat of the cape choking us if it was to catch on something. I see numerous TV commercials now showing moms tying items around young kids' necks so they can pretend they are superheroes. These items don't have break away Velcro closures. What changed? Why do advertisers think it's OK to promote dangerous practices for people to imitate?
