North Cape May - Regarding that jaw-dropping Herald letter by a writer wishing the U.S. would return to the British Empire: Are the rules for Letters to the Editor different from those of spouts, since the offensive letter's contents probably would never make it into a spout? As a veteran who faced the enemy, I found the lack of patriotism overwhelming.

Moderator's Note:
Letters to the Editor differ from Spout Off in the fact that letters are not anonymous, whereas spouts are, and letters can be 600 words, whereas spouts are 600 characters. However, both give readers an outlet to voice their opinions. The letter you're referring to was submitted as an opinion, and therefore would've been eligible for publication in Spout Off had it been submitted that way.
