We need to implement the Portuguese model of legalizing all drugs in order to combat this crisis. Funnel the money spent prosecuting people with addiction into treatment and care facilities. It is the only humane thing to do, and it works. In Portugal, drug addiction has decreased over the last decade. Crime has dropped. Kids are less likely to use hard drugs. These are facts that can't be denied. The war on drugs was an abysmal failure, like any prohibition.
