I find it curious that in this country, sports do not take on identity politics. For example, a NJ based team is playing a PA based team but most people in these parts support the Eagles, not the NJ based Giants. Further, conservatives and liberals stand shoulder to shoulder supporting their teams. That doesn’t happen in other countries where political views are defined in a team’s identity. I suppose NASCAR is as close as we get here to identity politics in sport. I’m oddly curious about that.
