What's with all of the lowering of the speed limits on a number

Lower Township - What's with all of the lowering of the speed limits on a number of county roads? Not everyone here is retired or geriatric. I've lived and visited enough places nationally to realize that it is feasible to have reasonable speed limits in areas suitable enough to accommodate them.
