Lower Township - We often see the puzzle piece being used to symbolize autism awareness. However, this symbol - which was designated without input from autistic people - has ableist meaning behind it that has been used to stigmatize and infantilize autistic folks for decades. Most autistics do not identify with or support this symbol - they are people, not puzzles. If you want to show support for autism awareness, please use the rainbow infinity symbol instead which was created by an actually autistic person and is widely embraced by the autistic community.
