Lower Township - Regarding the publisher’s column Oct. 10 on our high schools, I find it very sad that even the top-ranked Ocean City High School still has only "24 percent of students are at least proficient in math and 36 percent in reading.” This is very disheartening, especially when, as a parent, I struggle with the whole idea of PARCC testing, and the teachers being required to teach to test. It is failing miserably, and my kids, the teachers, and so many others are losing in the struggle. To me, there should never be a need for a kid who wants to go to college to have to take remedial classes. Our schools are failing these kids.
