Lower Township - The recent eruption of Maura Loa in Hawaii begs the question of what will be our backup system if a cataclysmic eruption blankets the earth with ash, rendering solar ineffective for the next few years? Redundancy is key in any critical system, which is why there are so many redundancies in airliners. The people who crafted our current energy policy amaze me with how little some know about energy and how it’s created or distributed. Sky obscuring eruptions have occurred before, just like hurricanes, and must be planned for. What is the plan? It seems no one in government thinks it’s necessary.
