I too am a HVAC contractor and heat pumps are not the end all you make them out to be. The heat pump will not carry the load by itself and needs backup heat. If using a heat pump, the ideal backup would be fossil fuel. A fossil fuel unit will last a good 20 years, a heat pump 10 to 12 years. Even with the best maintenance, the salt air corrodes the coils on the heat pump.
