Are taser guns legal in New Jersey?

Lower Township - Are taser guns legal in New Jersey? The last time I checked, they were illegal. Peace officers are allowed to carry them while on duty only if department issued. Correction officers are not to carry anything in the jail so inmates can't get a hold on it. We know someone from that department who has one and carries it with him in public. This is illegal, and just another 'in your face, I'll do what I want' from law enforcement. This taser was bought and carried across state lines.
