To the well-intentioned spouters who advocate providing the homeless with places to live, meals, etc.: I wish it were that simple. Unfortunately, most of the homeless have mental illness and addiction issues. They can't be housed in the convention center. They need special care and supervision. The stigma associated with mental hospitals has caused a lot of these facilities to close; in some cases because of neglect and abuse, and rightfully so. The country needs to take another look at reestablishing facilities where mentally ill people can receive compassionate care and housing.
