My take on this effort is that the progressive left is hoping an indictment or a conviction will make Trump ineligible to run for presidential office. This will backfire because the Constitution does not make such a restriction. And no Federal law or congressional resolution can make such a restriction. The Constitution remains the supreme law of the land.
