To hear and read the local media's elation with the Republican "sweep" of local elections is somewhat amusing. Except for Bill Hughes, Jr., there weren't even any Democratic candidates at the county level to laud victory over. As for local elections, one can only think that the few who voted were doing so to keep their jobs. When the largest employer in the county is county and municipal government, it doesn't take a political analyst to predict the election's outcome.
