I was with my crew beginning a patio and outdoor kitchen project in the Top of the World Development, in Greenbrook/Warren NJ. Two men from that 40plus home development died in the attack. I had heard about the attacks on the radio but did not know the couple I was working for worked in the WTC. At some point late afternoon, I came from the back of the house where excavation was underway, drawn by a honking horn, A Jersey City taxi was in his driveway, My client was sitting on his front steps head in hand. The Taxi driver was asking for money, I paid him and off he went. Sitting with my client, told me that as he got off the train in NYC and headed to his office in the towers ye could smell diesel fuel and smoke but was late and the traffic was at a standstill he was taking an alley shortcut when he heard what he learned later was the second plane hitting the tower. Looking skyward he said he saw a piece of concrete the size of a car fling in his direction. The next thing he remembered was he was on the NJ side of the Hoboken Ferry his wallet was gone his shoes were gone, and he had no idea how he got there. Other than being covered in dust tie and suit jacket gone, he was disoriented but physically unharmed as much as I could tell. Both he and his wife were unemployed now. Within 6 months they had moved back to Wisconsin, where they came from. The Patio Turned out great.
