I was onboard the USS Kitty Hawk docked in Yokosuka Japan. I was having a cigarette on the smoking sponson when I overheard someone say “A plane crashed into the World Trade Center. I really didn’t think much of it and went back to our office. Once I got back, I turned on the tv and there it was on the news. As I was watching i saw the plane hit, I thought they were showing it on repeat but it was actually the second plane hitting. In shock, I continued to watch. About 3 min after the 2nd impact, the office phone rang. It was the operations officer, he said “Petty officer Delinski, call your division officer and LCPO now, we are issuing a full recall and to report immediately to the ship. I was a 3rd class petty officer calling my bosses at 11:30pm telling them to get back to the ship and explaining what was going on. I will never forget!
