I had flown to LA the night before on business and was getting ready to grab breakfast and head to our plant. My wife called which was unusual for early morning my time. She asked, "Do you have the TV on"? I told her that I did - ESPN SportsCenter, where it was business as usual. She told me to switch to one of the major networks - that there had been a terrible accident in New York. I hung up, and like everybody in America, watched in open-mouthed terror as new details emerged one after another after another - second collision in NYC...no accident...multiple sites...many deaths. I was 3,000 miles away from my family and unable to help them in any way. I was filled with a mix of helplessness and rage. The helplessness passed eventually; the rage never has.
