So the Herald wants to spend billions of taxpayer dollars to build a road to evacuate people who aren't intelligent enough to not travel to a barrier island on a peninsula when it's been on the news for a week that a hurricane is traveling up the east coast. Really ? We have had hurricanes hit on Labor Day weekend. No fatalities or injuries due to an inability to evacuate. Why? Because the barrier islands are ghost towns when a hurricane warning is in place. There is no need for Route 55. This is why it will never be built.
