Del Haven - Re: the July 3 story, "500 Female Terrapins Die on Annual Egg-laying Journey," whereas a warning sign was installed along North Wildwood Blvd., alerting motorists of crossing turtles, has little to no effect when seeing a turtle while driving 55 mph. It gets stuck because it cannot cross the concrete barrier. It makes more sense to place rain gutter tubing along the sides of the road, like Stone Harbor and Avalon towns do, to prevent them from entering. Also, turtles do not cross at turtle crossing signs, and stopping trying to avoid one trapped in the road can be deadly for both.
