Why do we have freeholder elections?

Court House - Why do we have freeholder elections? The only way we ever get rid of the freeholders is if they die or retire. They never lose an election. Their re-election is a forgone conclusion. No Democrats ever run. They wouldn't get elected even if they did. The backwards residents of this county just blindly automatically vote Republican. Hitler could be resurrected, run as a Republican and he would win. The county residents need to wake up and realize this is a very undemocratic place to live. The GOP stranglehold on this county is unhealthy.
