Court House - To Spouter I.M. Wright: Perhaps if we lived in a static world, billions of gallons of water being removed from the environment in the last 100 years as you suggest would have been impactful. However, at present the earth loses 1.2 Trillion tons of ice from glacier and ice sheet melting every year, translating into 288 Trillion gallons of water (240 gallons/ton) returned to the liquid environment. Billions of gallons removed from that would hardly even make a dent, or even be visibly noticeable, let alone cause rivers, lakes and reservoirs to dry up across the planet.
