Court House - Betsy DeVos, Trump's nominee for education secretary, said under questioning that she did not think the federal government should have to fund IDEA ... a program for disabled students. She said she thought the states should pick up this expense. When asked if a given state decided not to fund this, she had no answer for those students and their parents. These are our special education and special needs students. Please, Lord, say this isn't so!

Moderator's Note:
According to a Washington Post article Jan. 18, "DeVos said that states should have the right to decide whether to enforce IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), but when Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) later told her that IDEA is a federal civil rights law and asked DeVos if she stood by her statement that it was up to the states to follow it, DeVos responded, 'Federal law must be followed where federal dollars are in play.'"
