Why is it that people regard the six weeks teachers don't work in the summer as a vacation, whereas with any other employee who is furloughed, it is looked upon as a hardship? Teachers are not paid in the summer. It's not "vacation time." It's basically six weeks of unemployment; the only difference is, unlike every other seasonally employed person, teachers are not eligible for unemployment.
