As a home contractor for 27 years, I wouldn't have enough space to tell you all the problems I've found by do-it-yourself home fixers over the years. For what it would cost you to hire a professional to do even a simple carpentry, plumbing or electrical project, it will definitely save big bucks in the long run to get someone with experience and knowledge who knows what really should be done.
