As per the Herald article discussing the high absenteeism in our county’s schools, it’s worse than the #s indicate. School districts fudge that # by allowing for “credit restoration” whereby kids who have high absences can basically sit in detention at the end of the year making up time. Of course an hour of sitting doing nothing in June in reality doesn’t replace the lost learning of missing full days where instruction was taking place, but districts will use any means necessary to avoid getting jammed up by the state. I don't know that I blame them but be aware the #s are even higher.
