Cape May - Why does Cape May use Public Works employees to do construction that many reputable local contractors could do faster and cheaper? The restrooms on the promenade near Grant Street have been under construction for months and were still not finished for Memorial Day Weekend. When you factor in the loaded hourly rates (with health benefits, pensions, and vacation) and the fact that these city employees are not as efficient as contractors who do this kind of work every day, it should be a no brainer. As a taxpayer, I'm appalled at these kinds of decisions.
