Cape May - When the mayor of Cape May delegated to a special committee to select an architect to contract for the design of a new safety building, he, in effect, outsourced the sworn duties of his council. As a result, the council could not, in the March 19 council meeting, defend or answer questions from the public about the process to make the selection that had been made for them. An entirely unsatisfactory situation. To make matters worse, the council then voted 3-2 in favor of contracting the architect in what could be the largest project in Cape May for years and all on somebody else's say so.
