Cape May - What ever happened to the nature trail project behind the Lafayette Street Park. This was going to be funded by County Open Space money and an educational gem for the elementary school children. Can the city administration confirm that the project was scrapped and the money diverted to the AME church? The mayor was quoted as saying no City taxpayer money will be spent on AME. So far city taxpayers money is approaching 1 million. Where is the accountability? Can the Herald do some investigative reporting to find out? As an elderly citizen and avid reader of the Herald please look into this.

Moderator's Note:
The delay in the Lafayette Street Park construction has been due to legal and environmental issues involving the city Housing Authority, Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L) and both the state and federal environmental protection agencies. The city says that the nature trail project has not been cancelled and no funds have been diverted from it. Mayor Zack Mullock says the city always intended to use taxpayer funds for the AME Church purchase and renovation. Even with grants, the city will have a match requirement.
