Cape May - In a spout I said, "Study the history of this county. Even before the railroads came, the only business that kept people here was tourism. No other industry has ever succeeded here," and someone commented naming some plantations, some farms, a sand plant and river pilots that were part of Cape Island City's history. That's nice, but obviously she doesn't know that since about the 1850s, tourism is the only industry that has lasted. Everything else has failed and gone away. Lots of the first whaling/farming families moved to Ohio 300 years ago. Even the factories in Woodbine disappeared.
