Cape May - To a responding spouter who stated that you do not need a mercantile license to rent, just an occupancy permit, think again. Renting your home is a business transaction. You do need a mercantile license. You become a business when you rent out your home, and you must pay the IRS too. You must also inform your homeowner's insurance. If something were to happen in your house when you are renting it out, your homeowner's insurance is not obligated to pay. Especially, if they do not know you are renting it out. Read your fine lines. Better safe than sorry.
