Cape May - At a recent City Council Meeting, at council there was an issue about fire inspections on rentals. A couple of years ago, the City of Cape May no longer required long term rentals( over 30 days) needing a mercantile license. However, you are still required to have a fire inspection on the rental. Your home owners insurance requires that as well. So, anyone renting their homes needs a fire inspection and a mercantile license. If you are renting longer than 30 days it still requires a fire inspection. The City needs to read their own rules.
