Cape May - The law does not say that cars yield to pedestrians on the curb or sidewalk. It says "stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk." Standing on the curb or approaching the curb does not give you permission to step out into the road. Look and wait for a clearing to cross, like in the old days. Yes, when it's congested, it is nice when a car stops, but that's only a courtesy, not the law. You may get rear ended. The law was made to clarify that cars must yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.
