Cape May - Cape May coast guard here. My wife was a LEGAL immigrant. The process was lengthy--1+ year-- for me to get USG approval to get married overseas. When we did return to the US we completed every step for her to become a US citizen, which occured 3 years and 1 month after we returned to the US from my USG overseas assignment. I was completely financially responsible for my wife before she became a citizen. US taxpayers did not pay for any support of my wife...I paid. I have no issue with the process we went through. I just wish the same process was applied to everyone.
